His Words Will Make You Completely Change. He Died Alone, In A Nursing Home

Old age is never easy. Old, weak, ill… This is what old age means for most people. And having to spend the last years of your life surrounded by strangers makes old age even more difficult to bear.
Unfortunately, most seniors have no other option, but a nursing home to live in.
And although a nursing home is a place which provides medical care along with physical, speech and occupational therapy for the old who don’t need to stay in a hospital, but can’t be cared for at home, they rarely offer emotional support to their residents. And this is often more important than medical attention.
When Mark Filiser, an old man, died at the geriatric ward of a nursing home, the staff thought he’d left nothing of value. But soon, they realized they’d made a mistake.
What they found was a beautiful poem called Cranky Old Man which the old man had written days before his death. The poem left everyone lost for words, and the nurse in charge made sure all employees got copies of the heart-breaking lyrics.

Cranky Old Man
What do you see nurses? . . .. . .What do you see?
What are you thinking .. . when you’re looking at me?
A cranky old man, . . . . . .not very wise,
Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . .. with faraway eyes?
Who dribbles his food .. . … . . and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . .’I do wish you’d try!’
Who seems not to notice . . .the things that you do.
And forever is losing . . . . . .. . . A sock or shoe?
Who, resisting or not . . . … lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill?
Is that what you’re thinking?. .Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse .you’re not looking at me.
I’ll tell you who I am . . . . .. As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, .. . . . as I eat at your will.
I’m a small child of Ten . .with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters .. . . .. . who love one another
A young boy of Sixteen . . . .. with wings on his feet
Dreaming that soon now . . .. . . a lover he’ll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . ..my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows .. .. .that I promised to keep.
At Twenty-Five, now . . . . .I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . .. . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . .. With ties that should last.
At Forty, my young sons .. .have grown and are gone,
But my woman is beside me . . to see I don’t mourn.
At Fifty, once more, .. …Babies play ’round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . My loved one and me.
Dark days are upon me . . . . My wife is now dead.
I look at the future … . . . . I shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing .. . . young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . And the love that I’ve known.
I’m now an old man . . . . . . .. and nature is cruel.
It’s jest to make old age . . . . . . . look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles .. .. . grace and vigour, depart.
There is now a stone . . . where I once had a heart.
But inside this old carcass . A young man still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells
I remember the joys . . . . .. . I remember the pain.
And I’m loving and living . . . . . . . life over again.
I think of the years, all too few . . .. gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people .. . . . .. . . open and see.
Not a cranky old man .
Look closer . . . . see .. .. . .. …. . ME!!

If this poem has touched your heart, make sure you never forget that an old body may actually be hiding a young spirit willing to live. So, the next time you meet an old person, look deeper – look for the man that once lived in that helpless body.
This poem may touch many more hearts, so feel free to share and enlighten others too. Has it touched yours?

Nigeria Can Learn From American Election

The United States of America presidential elections once again, brought the world to the realization that America has got something to teach the world in this era of democratization. One thing that particularly struck me was the passion that drove both candidates to serve their nation. That may not be the situation in all nations especially Nigeria but there is need to turn a new leaf to make democratic progress. Politics from the American perspective as far as I am concerned, means ‘put national interest above personal selfish political cravings’. That is the spirit...I wish our 'politicians' will learn how to play people centered politics and forget their selfish political cravings. We really need to wake up in our country Nigeria if we must make democratic
progress. Our politics needs overhaul honestly. See how Nigerians invested their emotions in the American election when 'I don't care' is the veiled norm when it comes to ours. If we think we will prove acceptable to others when we have not proven acceptable to ourselves, we are just day-dreaming. We must wake up and soberly reflect on our ways and make amends to get it right in Nigeria. We must make the sacrifice of playing politics by the rule and not recourse to violence when we suffer electoral defeat. Americans made sacrifice to get where they are now, we can’t get close if we refrain from making the needed sacrifice to build our democracy and nation. God bless Nigeria.

The greatest irony of life

"Loving the right person at the wrong time,
having the wrong person when the time is right
and finding out you love someone right after
that person walks out of your life...

And sometimes, you think you're already over a person,
but when you see them smile at you,
you'll suddenly realize that you're just pretending
to be over them just to ease the pain of knowing that
they will never be yours again...

For some, they think that letting go is one way
of expressing how much they love that person...
in my opinion, some are afraid to see the one they love
being held by someone else...

Most relationships tend to fail not because
the absence of love. Love is always present.
It's just that one was being loved too much and the
other was being loved too little...

As we all know that the heart is the center of the body
but it beats on the left. maybe that's the reason
why the heart is not always right...

Most often we fall in love with the person we think we love
but to only discover that for them
we are just for passing time, while the one who truly
loves us remains either a friend or a stranger...

So here's a piece of advice;
Let go when you're hurting too much.
Give up when love isn't enough.
And move on when things are not like before...

It's certain... there is someone out there
WHO WILL LOVE YOU EVEN MORE... "

Truck Driver,6 Ph.D, 704 Master Applied

PEOPLE shocked that doctorate degree holders are applying for jobs as truck drivers may not appreciate the extent of the unemployment situation.
Statistics are unreliable, but revelations that six Ph.D holders and 704 others with Master’s degree applied to Dangote Group as truck drivers raise questions about our education and our uses of the educated.
All these things are verifiable, and they all graduated from reputable institutions which is satisfactory; and our plan is to eventually make them self dependent,” Aliko Dangote said at a mentoring session of the World Bank Youth Forum.
Debates over if a Ph.D holder should apply for a truck driver’s position, miss the point. Such debates are at the perplexing level of encountering a national challenge that has been on for many years.
Thirteen thousand applied though Dangote had only 100 openings. How would you compare that to the 39,000 applications that a federal broadcasting agency received 10 years ago when it advertised eight positions? The problem has been lingering, and growing with the thousands who graduate from higher institutions annually.
High unemployment rates have devastating impacts including the fact that families that invested their fortune in education, in the hope that the educated would rescue other family members, are stuck with their unemployed young ones.
It is a long frustrating process that leaves generations of Nigerians wasting. When university graduates, especially higher degree holders, apply for jobs ordinarily meant for those who are not so educated, we should worry too about increasing unemployment rates among the uneducated.
The attraction for most of the applicants could be the generous conditions of the employment. Apart from their salaries, and trip allowances, Dangote said the truck becomes completely theirs on clocking 300,000km, about 140 trips between Kano and Lagos.
Many would not like to miss the opportunity of owning their own business after serving Dangote. Few jobs offer that type of incentive today. Our Ph.D truck drivers could be budding entrepreneurs, who missed their calling. Dangote is providing something different, more than a job.
The eminent danger is that next year, more people, some from the dwindling universities, could leave their teaching positions for the Dangote offer. We are in the final stages of misapplication of our resources, particularly those who have completed high levels of education and should at least be teaching.
Jobs are so scarce that some make a living from scams that promise jobs. The incident in Abuja where thousands of unemployed graduates protested at the Ministry of Interior because officials denied them access to submit application forms is instructive: the ministry was not recruiting.
Governments’ policies are important to reverse this trend which is a ticking bomb.
